Open Water Diver is the entry level scuba certification, which allows you to rent gear and air most places around the world. It also opens the doors to many unique dive sites and experiences. It includes "book" learning, confined water sessions held in a pool and open water sessions which are usually held at Lake Phoenix. Generally, an Open Water Diver class is planned for two weekends learning in the pool and one weekend completing the open water sessions. Because of our individualized approach, we work to accommodate students that may need more time and instruction to be fully comfortable and safe divers. If you have any concerns about taking the course, reach out and talk to one of our instructors who would be happy to talk you through the process. If you still are not sure this is for you, consider checking out a Discover Scuba Diving class to give it a try before you commit to a full Open Water Diver Course.

Have you always wondered what it's like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren't quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you. We offer this experience in our personal pool. While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. This is a particularly great class to take if you are interested in a full Open Water Diver Course, but are unsure if scuba diving is for you. If you enroll in an Open Water Diver Course within seven calendar days of your Discover Scuba Diving class at Fluvanna Dive Center, we will take $50 off your Open Water Diver Course price. To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old.

Improve your dive skills, learn how to go deeper safely, and work on navigation. This class touches on a number of other skills as you do one dive from each of five separate specialties. This is often the next step after taking an Open Water Diver Course and gives the diver more opportunities to take part in trips or dives that may require Advanced Open Water. This course is also great to try out a small piece of multiple specialties, helping you decide which parts of diving most interest you so you can pursue them further. You must be at least 12 years old for Advanced Open Water and you must already have been certified as an Open Water Diver.
